Topic 2: Processes and characteristics of basic thinking skills

Education is an indispensable part of our lives especially today in the XXI century, for this reason, it must be paid attention it, pedagogues have created a methodology to develop this kind of thinking skills from basic to harder, likewise, it has had modifications for years, it is called Bloom’s taxonomy. This essay will only cover the basic ones and how are they conformed using some concepts, so what understand Bloom’s taxonomy first is divided into different parts of the thinking skills that are separated in a way that not always will be following an order of steps, but also can be adapted to the necessary context.

Observation is a method very used to obtain new information about a topic of interest, it consists of the direct collection of data from nature. The good part of it is that this systematic process provides loyal information of a large variety of behavioral, patterns and phenomena; however, some things cannot be known because they are intangible. This process is useful to understand the state of the matter before intervening in any way, obtaining data for analysis, for example. In Simply Psychology, Saul McLeod mention that there are 3 types of doing observation systematically: Controlled: controls place, time, participants, circumstances; Naturalistic: spontaneous behavior of participants in natural surroundings; Participant: the researcher joins in and becomes part of the group they are studying. In the final, it depends on the necessities.

When description Allen Deever says that “The single most important aspect of a good description is this effect: A good description has the power to transport a reader to the scene of your action.” (Description Writing Formula, December 2015) taking this into account we can add that is a discursive tool that allows explaining the characteristics of any material or immaterial concept for a better comprehension of a whole. This needs to develop a capacity to say into words those ideas that figure in your mind, so that: select the remarkable concepts or actions that fit on it, then add the ideas that complement for a good understanding, finally, add a physical description it is possible, use colors, sounds, smell, taste, touch or movement. These tips will make the memorizing process easier than before.

The act of comparing allows to take two or more concepts for researching them using the same variants, with this it will be found what are the differences and the similarities. There are two ways of doing it, the first is searching them separated of its characteristics, the second you must identify what the categories are and then you can fill it with those characteristics. For this point is essential to have the notion of what is a classification and a relationship, as stated in the Cambridge dictionary classification is "the act or process of dividing things into groups according to their type"; a relationship is "the way in which two things are connected". For instance, we will do the two processes, find according to the results how these concepts are related and how can they be classified.

In conclusion, most of these concepts are already known to most people, nevertheless, they are not well-known and applied correctly. In our day by day and especially for me, as I am a university student, these concepts and methodologies will make the difference between understanding a topic or not. I notice that I could divide a topic into different parts of the learning and select the ones that, for the specific situation, are useful and apply it following the steps of Observation, Description, Comparison, Relationship, Classification using them as tools for the implementation to my correct learning.
