Topic 5: Models for evaluation solution alternatives & Trouble shooting

To start with this topic is relevant the theory of change explains “how activities are understood to produce a series of results that contribute to achieving the final intended impacts. It can be developed for any level of intervention – an event, a project, a program, a policy, a strategy or an organization.” (UNICEF, Patricia Rogers) for this we can see the theory of chance as that way is not only searching for the solutions, it is to find them in the vest way for developing a whole strategy to implement an attempt for having a significant impact with it.

The theory of change is then, a model to evaluate the efficiency of the solutions this allows us to recognize what are the long and the short necessities, find ways to apply it and correct the bad ones, that’s why it can be used for strategic planning or program for forethought to identify the current situation (in terms of needs and opportunities), the suitable situation, and what required to be done to change from one to the other. This can help to create more realistic goals, clarify accountabilities, and establish a common understanding of the strategies to be used to achieve the goals.

And eventually, to develop this involves identifying: the problem that the intervention seeks to address, the causes and consequences of this problem, and the opportunities, next to clarify the aspects to take into account without forgetting your priorities, collect evidence to the context, the next step is to develop a theory on how to get from the current situation to the desired situation. In addition, there are some points that may keep in mind the next points: inputs, activities, outputs, results, and impact. Input as what are your resources, activities the ones that you will imply, outputs as the products, results as what are the things that will happen, the impact is the most important because all rounds at this point, so it refers to most than results what this will represent a benefit for a community.

In the systems approach, attention is paid to the overall effectiveness of the system rather than the effectiveness of the subsystems. The interdependence of the subsystems is taken into account. The idea of systems can be applied at the organizational level. In the application of systems concepts, organizations are taken into account and not only the objectives and actions of the different departments (subsystems). So then, Daniel Catalán says “A systems approach brings together interviews, dialogue, openness to perspectives from public and private sectors, and people at all levels of an institution’s hierarchy”

At this point, it is noticed that following this advice and systems approach will make the task of finding solutions easier than before, I think that is preferable to do all of them since it seems that is kind of necessary. Attending to these points of the theory of change it will probably find the vest solutions being conscious of the impact that actions can have.
