Unit 2: creativity

 

The importance of creative thinking today needs no emphasis. In your profession or sphere of work you will have a competitive advantage if you develop your ability to come up with new ideas. In your personal life, too, creative thinking can lead you into new paths of creative activity. It can enrich your life – though not always in the way you expect. “Creativity is the faculty of mind and spirit that enables us to bring into existence, ostensibly out of nothing, something of use, order, beauty or significance.”

Unfortunately, exits a myth about the genius that person who already is creative by magic. “The genius myth suggests anyone lucky enough to win the genetic lottery could, by way of their own precocity, revolutionize an entire field.” Of course, this version of genius ignores a key reality: that a number of external factors influence the trajectory of genius figures, particularly privilege, and the opportunities and resources that go with it. In other cases, the factors could be like the effort, time and willingness.

The increasingly large concentric circles represent the major levels at which creativity forces operate:


These circles represent the different levels of research. Of course, it needs to be noted that research rarely keeps to a single level of this model. It is difficult to research creativity in a social environment without looking at the groups present within that social environment.

There are 3 important components of creativity:

  •  Expertise: refers to all of the knowledge and experience that that person has gained in life.
  • Creative Thinking: a ‘capacity to put existing ideas in new combinations.
  • Motivation: is the fuel that drives the vehicle provided by the two elements listed above.

At the final it can be said that creative thinking often involves a leap in the dark. You are looking for something new. But, taking into account all of these points it pushes us to think around what to be a creative person means, for this it seems that there is no exactly a way of being creative, instead it happens if you combine the different types of thinking, put effort and do not wait until this creativity comes for doing something. Also, keep in mind that you do not born with a creative mind, you develop a creative one using it.

  After all there are some concepts that are needed to clarify, then there are two types of thinking: divergent thinking and convergent thinking.  In education, there exist some basic thinking skills, even so, they were already covered in the previous essay. Moreover, what happens with the higher ones, this is the new point of view.
